Have been searching hi and lo, but cannot find tech-specs for ram to put in user-accesible slot.

Would very much like 512 MB

Manual says PC2700 SO-DIMM DDR-SDRAM 3,3 v. no buffer.
I can only find that in a 200 pin-version, and I believe 144 is needed.

144-pin though, only comes in PC133 and max 256 MB.

What's a poor girl to do

I looked on crucial.com for memory for the 20" iMac you have; it turns out that you need the 200-pin PC2700 SO-DIMM DDR-SDRAM for the user slot, not the 144-pin one. The 144-pin RAM might be what the factory slot requires.

according to crucial (http://www.crucial.com/store/listpa...RAM&model=iMac+(G4-1GHz+PC2700+DDR)&submit=Go ), iMac flat-panel needing DDR PC2700 uses 200-pin RAM... it's still a SO-DIMM modules used in laptops, which i believe is the correct one to use for flat-panel iMacs...

According to Mactracker (a little freeware app that has info on all Macs and that you can get from versiontracker.com) tells it is a 200 pin PC2700 SO-dimm for the user and a 184 pin PC2700 SDRAM factory installed.
