Upgrading to 3G but already sold 2G

I'm upgrading to the 3G iPhone friday but I already sold my 2G iPhone. I called AT&T and they said I am still considered an iPhone customer as I am still paying for the iPhone rate plans but I am currently using a samsung flip phone (sync). How can I avoid confusion on friday and stil qualify for the subsidized pricing?
