We've been running 4.2 GM on iPads. We were hoping today that the 4.2.1 release would happen through iTunes. However, clicking on "Check For Update" in iTunes for the 4.2 iPad indicates:

"This version of the iPad software (4.2) is the current version."

Does anyone know if this will eventually auto-upgrade to 4.2.1 if we're running the developer's 4.2 GM?

I am seeing this same problem.

Several people have reported success with clicking the "Restore" button instead of the "Check for Updates" button.

I'd recommend that you right-click on your iPad in iTunes, and select "Back Up" before starting the restore process.

You will have a choice at the end of the restore in select from "Set up as new iPad" -or- "Restore from backup".

Overcame this by downloading the 4.2.1 build and alt-clicking on "Check for Updates". Didn't wipe anything out and now is on the latest build.
