Has anyone found any info on what we should or shouldn't do if upgrading phones and we have a watch? I can't find anything specific but I'm thinking:

1 - Unpair watch from old phone
2 - Backup old phone to iTunes
3 - Set up new phone and restore from iTunes backup
4 - Re-pair watch with new phone and restore watch from on-phone backup

I think part of the unpairing process creates a watch backup on the phone???

I didn't even have to un-pair the watch to do it..I did sign-out of a lot of account info though.

When I restored, the phone needed to re-pair with the watch and then it restored the last backup that was created.

BTW, I think a backup is ONLY created if you encrypt the backup.. not 100% sure, but that is what I did and I think I read that somewhere.

I should have mentioned that the backup should be encrypted. iCloud backups already are from what I understand, but I've restored from iCloud during an upgrade and it's a painful experience. The encrypted iTunes backup will also bring along passwords etc, so that info does not have to be set up again.

yes, it is really the best and fastest way to do a backup and restore for a total phone change.
