toying with the idea of swapping out the 160gb 5400rpm drive in my macbook pro for a 320gb 7200rpm WD drive. more space, more speed.

however, there are 1 or 2 questions....

1. heat, i've heard theyre no hotter and even heard some reports that they are infact cooler than the standard drive in the MBP

2. noise, higher spindle speed would suggest to me that the overall idle noise will be slighty higher, though there have been mixed reports

3. power draw, more speed from the motor requires more juice, can the MBP's power system handle it? and if it can, can i expect a significant decrease in battery life? im used to getting around 4 hours from my machine. again there are mixed reports here.

4. speed increase, most reports ive seen suggest marked improvement in boot up times, app launches and general system responsiveness.

would like to hear peoples thougths on this, especially those who have gone through with such an upgrade.

thanks

Alex
