upgrading to lion

I am really excited about upgrading to lion, but im still on leopard. one of my computers has SL, and the other two have leopard. If i were to upgrade the one with sl to lion now it would be fine, but instead of buying the family edition of sl for the other two computers, can i just buy the single and upgrade each to lion one at a time after sl is downloading on one.
I hope this makes sense. I really need help.

You could use this method to make a installation DVD or USB flash memory thumb drive and then use that to clean install Lion on the Leopard Macs and then migrate from a TM backup.

Im assuming this way only works with clean installations.
