Upgrading to the X question

I have Verizon and my iPhone 7plus is paid for. However, I want to enroll in the iPhone upgrade program. Will I encounter enrolling problems and ordering the X at the same time? Apple told me I cannot enroll early to skip that step. I’m thinking it’s going to be very hectic at 2am cst time.
