I realize I probably should be posting this at the Verizon forums, but I didn't want to make an account, so I'm posting here.

I currently use the crappiest Android phone in the world, and my contract is set to expire in January. I can't stand it any longer, and I want an iPhone before then. I don't want the 4S, I want to be able to upgrade to the 5 in a year. I was thinking of picking up a used (meaning contract-free) iPhone 4 sometime in the next couple of weeks, but I didn't know if Verizon would be able to deactivate my old phone and activate the iPhone before my contract is up without extending my contract or anything. Anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

You can purchase an iPhone on Ebay or Craig's list and switch to that (instead of your Droid) and it won't affect your contract length. Your contract length is only based on the discounted phone you purchased directly from Verizon.
