Upgrading unlocked 3G running on fw 3.1.3

Hey guys, I've been out of the game for a while now and I need help on upgrading a 3G iPhone running on fw: 3.1.3 with baseband: 05.12.01 and maintain the unlock.

The two questions I would like answered are:

1. What is the highest fw I can take this phone to.

2. Where can I get instructions on how to go about doing so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would keep it on 3.1.3. Although iOS 4.X did provide some new features such as folders and 'digital' zoom the speed de-performance is not worth it.
