Hi all,

I apologise in advance if this question has been asked before; however, I did search, and I was not able to figure out the answer.

I have the UNLOCKED iPhone and the following are the facts:

Model: 3Gs
iBoot-359.3.2
Jailbroken: Blackra1n
Firmware: 3.1.2

I wish to ask - can I upgrade to IOS 4.0.2 using iTunes officially and have my phone work normal? I am not so interested in pushing in Cydia apps and free apps but I want the phone to work normally.

If this is not the solution, then can you recommend, how it can be done?

I tried using Jailbreakme.com from my Safari on my iPhone but it simply kept restarting my phone.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Handlebar9181

Its not very clear. Is your phone still on 3.1.2 or 4.0.2?

If you upgrade to 4.0.2, you won't be able to JB or unlock. Thus, Jailbreakme.com won't work.

Current 3.1.2

Hi Myzhi,

Currently, I am using 3.1.2

But my iPhone was unlocked and it was jailbroken using blackra1n.

I wish to upgrade to 4.0.2; can I do it using iTunes and have my phone working normally is my question. I do not need it to play Cydia or any free apps but I expect it to run normally as a phone.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Mustan

As I stated in previous reply, if you update to official 4.0.2 firmware, you will loose the JB and unlock. And, since you want to keep unlock, answer is NO.

Next best option

Hi Myzhi/all,

Thanks - got it - I am unable to upgrade to 4.0.2.

However, can I upgrade to ios 4.0.1?

How do I do that?

Thanks.

After 3GS and newer devices, Apple put in a security check (using SHSH blobs) so you can't install a firmware they don't want. Right now, Apple is only allowing 4.0.2. Thus, for example, if you want to install 4.0.1 or below, you had to already saved your hashes at time Apple was still sending them out. And, each hash is unique for each Iphone and firmware. So, the big question, did you saved your 4.0.1 SHSH hashes?

Did not save SHSH

HI Myzhi,

Thanks again for replying.

Nope mate - I did not save anything :) How do I check what my saved hashes are?

I am not sure what exactly needs to be done so if you can give me a few more details on how I can check, it will be great!

Soooo... nothing I can do now except sit tight on 3.1.2?

I read your reply on this forum:

In that thread, read my post #8, last one, for instructions to save and see what hashes are available to you. Most likely, you will only be able to save 4.0.2. It won't hurt to try saving older ones. And, in the future, use those instructions save 4.1, 4.2, 5.0 and so on.

Results from Tinyumbrella

Hi M,

These are the results - and I have no idea what it means. Can you help?

Were you able to save any SHSH hashs in step #3? Click on "Display SHSHs." What firmware does it display, if any?

Hi Myzhi,

In "Display SHSH's", it shows:

"The following devices / ECID's can be restored safely:"

When I clicked on "Save my SHSH", these are the results:

09/05/2010 12:01:09.417 Processing SHSH Request...
09/05/2010 12:01:09.453 Asking CYDIA for SHSH blobs for iPhone3GS 4.0.2 (8A400)...

-------------

It looks like it saved the 4.0.2 SHSH; this means, that I just have to sit tight until a jailbreak is configured for this?

You have been of immense help - thank you very much.

Cheers,
Handlebar9181

I take it you weren't able to save 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0 and/or 4.0.1? If so, you will have to sit tight until probably 4.1 JB. Make sure to save 4.1 hashes when it comes available.

Thanks very much!

Hi Myzhi,

You are right; I was not able to save any other SHSH.

I will save it in future.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Mustan
