Here's info about my computer:
Machine Model: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.7)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 350 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1

Have OS10.3. Use Quark (have 4.1) and other programs. Want to upgrade Quark as well as my operating system. Through this forum I now realize that I'm in difficult land if attempting to upgrade this machine. It's making weird noises, so the issue may be taken care of before I am ready!

Can't afford anything new, so need either refurbished or unrefurbished used.

Looking for suggestions and wisdom...

Thanks!

...as little as possible. Have $1000 at most, but that could be gone in a flash should anything else erupt!

I'd go on eBay and look for a nice used intel iMac. Plenty of options and an absolutely enormous upgrade.

That'd be okay, but I'd look for a Core 2 Duo. Typically they do not draw much higher bids then the Core Duo machines do. But I've owned a White Intel iMac and enjoyed it VERY much. For under $1000 consider the 24 incher. The extra real estate is very nice. But definitely look for a Core 2 Duo.

What's the difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo?

Also, just remembered that I 'm gonna get new glasses, which reduces my stash a bit.

Thanks to all for suggestions. Core2Duo looks good...no great! Have located source for history of all Macs which has been very helpful. (www.apple-history.com)

Any suggestions for another model which might cost a bit less would be appreciated, as it seems the $1000 I put aside mentally is quickly being spoken for.

Thanks,
Penny

The white MacBook was just updated to the 9400M GPU. It's $999 and has FireWire over the aluminum MacBook. It can't output above 1920x1200, though, so if you need a 30" display, forget it.
