Upload personal movies to iTunes and stream from iOS

I copied a small movie collection into iTunes and want those same movies to appear in the Videos app in iOS so I can stream them from my iPad or iPhone. The movies were all purchased through sources other than iTunes. Is it not possible to stream your movie collection Apple if you did not purchase the videos from them, but copied them to your iTunes account?
