I bought my first Mac on amazon.com back in 2005.. and now I'd like to get a new one using the educational discount, so I figure I should get mine from the Apple Retail Store. When I go and buy it... do they charge extra for helping me transfer everything over and what not? If so I can probably just do it myself... I can't imagine it would be that difficult anyways

Apple will transfer everything over for free, although it's quite easy to do yourself.

It will prompt you as you're setting up your new computer.
You can use the migration assistant if both computers have firewire.
Otherwise a time machine backup is an option.
Manually is also a way to do it for older or non firewire systems.
