Not just you...

I've seen this issue myself. It's happened a few times on my 2010 Mac Pro. Also running Lion 10.7.4, and it seems to have started fairly recently -- perhaps even coinciding with 10.7.4, but not really sure.

I've seen other threads on this, and one user even suggested it may have been related to turning on CD/DVD Sharing, which I had also done recently. No real evidence on this though.

I've been renaming it back manually, and it hasn't been a huge problem for me, but it is certainly annoying.

My 2010 mac Pro does this all the time, very annoying because it confuses the other computers connected to the network. A solution would be welcome. If the solution's name is Mountain Lion that's even better.

well thx for chiming in, this seems to need a genuine help desk ticket at apple to address it, as widespread across different hardware models.

Just an update - I never solved this problem, and now look at what's going on

It's up to name 116!
What sort of Mac OS X data accounting error is going on here??

Still doing it, this morning upon awake I got this message:
