Read enough on this board to want to try my luck getting a "device-only", unlocked iPhone 5 from store. The question is...which should I get? Verizon or AT&T? I plan to use this with either Straight Talk or T-Mobile.

I understand the Verizon comes unlocked, but is it compatible with GSM 3G/LTE?

What about the AT&T version? If somehow I want to switch to Verizon, will it work too?

Basically, my question is...what's the difference between AT&T and Verizon iPhone 5? Give me the big picture and don't skip the detail. :D

Good luck getting anyone to sell it to you without an association to Sprint, Verizon, or ATT.

no you can not use att phone on verizon..

verizon phone you can use on att.. but you cant use atts LTE.

verizon is better for international use. More LTE bands.

god luck getting one. Ive read that apple isnt doing device only as a few weeks ago. Let us know how it goes.

It'd be easier to get one device only from Walmart/Target/BB etc. Get the AT&T one if you're going to use T-Mobile for future LTE support :)

So the Verizon iphone 5 only works with AT&T 3g? What about T-mobile 3g? I am only concerned with US coverage at this time.

Allright. It's pretty interesting. If I want world LTE I should go with Verizon. But if I want US GSM LTE, I should go with AT&T.

But US GSM LTE coverage is almost non-existent...

Boy, do I have a dilemma in hand.

Unlocked iphone 5

I have the same question. I need an unlocked iphone 5 to use it in Peru most of time and to use it in the US while I'm visiting my friends. Since Apple is not selling the iphone 5 as factory unlocked like they did with the 4S, what should I do?
I dont care about LTE because we use GSM/3G in my country.
Any recommendation and help to get an iphone in an apple store will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Antonio

IF you can get one. Verizon is the way to go.

Based on the original posting, my reccomendation is to NOT head out to buy a phone. You need to research many things:

ATT vs Verizon to start with.
Why unlocked vs contract?

And since you do not know which carrier, I am guessing you do not know what memory you need or want. Then there is the color.

Gee, I don't know,
On the one hand Verizon is more expensive,
On the other AT&T you can do voice data at the same time.
Guess you have to weigh the options for yourself
Let's see if
Enough introspection on your part will find you the answer.

Not unlocked, only without a contract. There is a difference. I talked to a Verizon associate yesterday in-store about the same thing.
