I dropped my Apple MacBook Air on wooden Chipboard today. There are cracks on that black thing that connects the screen and the keyboard, the black hinge, I mean.

It’s right in the middle, both on the front and on the back. I have attached a couple of pictures. Does anyone know if it will affect the computer in the long run?

Is there any chance that the hinge will break eventually? Please advice and help. I will really appreciate it and will be thankful.

That's really just a plastic cover over the hinge and the wiring that's in there; it's non-structural. If everything else is working ok, I'd just put some thin tape over the cracks and not worry about it further.

This is actually cosmetic damage and will not affect the computer. As mentioned above, it is fairly easy to replace. It is not glued in place and will slide off towards the right side of the display (as it slides, it should disengage clips). It may fight you a little bit. If you have not worked on computers much, the "hardest" part will be separating the display from the computer... or finding the pentalobe driver to remove bottom case cover.

Thats not the hinge itself, so I think you should be fine. You can always put a little superglue over that just be sure. But the hinge itself is metal underneath that thing on the sides, and I wouldn't worry about it.
