Hey guys,

So I took my brand new iphone 5 in to the genius bar yesterday to see if they could help me with a crashing issue I was having and they told me it was software related and to do a restore. So I just tried doing the restore now and it is failing. I keep getting a message that says "the iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9)."

any ideas i already tried the apple trouble shooting tips to see if that would help but no luck.

its and 16gb verizon iPhone 5. trying to do the restore on a late 2011 13" mbp.

Your help would really be appreciated.

Thanks

This happened to my iPhone 4 three times the first month I bought it. Take it back to the Apple store.

Be Polite, and professional. They will get you another one. :)

I am running the latest version of iTunes and I have only had my phone for 5 days, and all the phone shows is the connect to itunes logo

there is a difference in "DFU Mode" and "Recovery Mode" Google up instructions on how to put a iPhone into DFU mode or better yet a YouTube video. Then restore your iPhone and I'm very certain it will work just fine after that.

well it may be technically impossible to brick an iPhone. but i can't use it right now, and cant restore it so therefore I will consider it bricked at the moment.

I also cannot put the phone into DFU mode. I followed instructions on how to do so, hover it just keeps going back to recovery mode

It's been a while since I've done it, but I think that iTunes displays the same message for both modes (i.e. iTunes will say "recovery mode" even when it's in DFU mode).

Try downloading iReb from this link. It fixes recovery loop errors.

It's for Windows only.

I want to thank everybody for their help. I was able to fully restore my phone. Don't know what did it, but after countless tries it was successful. Although I still will be going into the apple store in the morning, cause when I talked to Apple Support they said it might be the cable.

Thank you again
