Hi,

Due to a desperate need to upgrade my Mac Pro i'm faced with a dilemma. Should i get a pair of X5355 new for £490 or a pair of used X5365 for £520 ? The thing is my budget is really tight and although the used X5365 have come from a Dell Blade server i'm worried that i'll spend this money and if they fail i have no warranty where at least with the X5355 there is.

So, in my shoes, what would you do?

Thanks,

VMM

I'd go for the X5365. I doubt any new X5355s would actually be that 'new' anyway since Intel has probably either halted production or hardly makes any anymore. It's probably been sat on a shelf for a good while. In my experience, processors are pretty reliable - they only start to fail if overclocked or badly cooled etc.

The only problem I can foresee is the blade server wasn't cooled very well, but odds are if someone is using a blade server, they have an adequate cooled server room.

I'd expect they were in a proper data center that had adequate HVAC systems pushing cold air to prevent them from roasting. ;)

I mean a Blade Server /= desktop. :p
