I am currently away on business in Japan, and my computer back home (mac mini) does not have a login password. Someone in my apartment has openend the mail client after turning on the Mac and now has access to all my important and some confidential emails.

I know in the future, I will be much more careful with my login security etc, but for now, what can I do?

If I disable .mac syncing and change the passwords to my email accounts, will that stop the mail getting through?

Many thanks

Yes changing your password would be the best option.

Login to .Mac and change your password.

While they will still be able to see e-mails already downloaded into the Mail application this will prevent them from sending or receiving anything else.

Many thanks, just needed confirmation. I think that I removed the older mail from the IMAP servers by archiving it onto this mac.

I'll turn off .mac authorisation on the machine and change my .mac password. Was due a change anyway.
