I need to quickly clone my old mac to my new mac. I was told the best way to do this is to put the macs in target mode and use the software CCC. I bought the firewire cable and plugged two macs in. I held the "T" while booting the new mac but all I see is the firewire icon floating in the screen. Nothing happens. What should I do to enter target mode? Thank you!!!

When you see the floating FireWire logo, it's in Target Disk Mode. Plug it into another Mac with a FireWire cable and it'll become an external hard drive on the other Mac.

You want to hold 'T' when booting up the old Mac. Then it will appear as a firewire drive to your new Mac. But are you sure you want to replace your new Mac with a cloned image of an older model?
