So I was using my Macbook Pro on charge it was on around 50% and suddenly it switched off. It switched back on but the fan was extremely loud and the date was the 1/1/2015 but this changed back to the current date. However my battery icon has disappeared so when I go to system preferences in energy saver to click the icon to show battery it appears and then reappears and says my Macbook has 0% battery, When I plug the charger in the light doesn't appear on the charger.

FIXED - Had to reset the SMC

SMC reset will fix some things, but if it dies while it still shows a charge that is a sign that you may need to replace the battery.

Definitely sounds like a dying battery. If you click on the battery icon in the menubar while holding down the option key what does it say after "Condition:" ?

Download coconut battery, it'll give you a good deal of stats on your battery. It does sound like the battery is done with though. The fan kicking on would bug me a little. Did it go off eventually?
