Hello hello,

I'm considering buying a Powerbook G4 400 MHz (640 RAM)... I would be running OS X Jaguar.

My question is, is the G4 400 fast enough for watching DivX movies (up to 640x480) without frame dropping? Or would I need the 500 MHz model? Using VLC player, which I was told is the fastest one.

It's important that I have an answer within 24 hours, I have to decide if buy or not untill tomorrow...

Thanx a lot!

I wouldn't know from firsthand experience, but I have a 400 MHz iMac G3 and it handles DiVX movies fine. Of course, it has been a while since I've watched a DivX movie, and I know I've never used VLC player. So, that might not have been much help, but it gives you an idea.

i have a 400Mhz ibook and i use mplayer to play DivX movies and its works fine for me...

runs better on my 1.25 DP but its very watchable.

Jaykay,

What do you mean with "works fine (...) works better on Dual..."?

Can you explain it? I mean, if it runs well (without frame dropping), how can it run even better on a Dual 1.25?
