Hi All,
Some quick advice if you have some please - I can't get the (swapped) optical drive to accept a disc. [15"--> 13"]

'About This Mac' sees an optical drive installed, (hl-dt-st dvdrw gs31n), but MacBook Pro won't let a disc in...

Checked cables, SMC and PRAM resets. Any help much appreciated.

Drive worked fine in 15", just not in 13"

Supposed to sell tomorrow...

Cheers,

Santa

Read on iFixit that the part should be interchangeable.

Also noticed that the system info says its connected, but no power..?

How can that be?

HELP! I now have the same problem! For 5 years my MBP 5,2 had a 2nd hard drive inside and the optical drive in an external enclosure. It worked great except for the inconvenience of carrying around that external & special y cable.

I want to sell it and wanted to restore it to it's original condition. Yesterday I reversed it and put the optical drive back inside. SMC & PRAM has been reset. I can insert a disc but the drive doesn't grab it and pull it in, instead it makes a noise like something is trying but slipping, then a slightly different yet similar noise and it doesn't accept any dvd/cd disc. It makes the 2 noises and then is quiet again.

Like above, system profiler can see the drive but shows "Power off: yes". -I'm not sure what that means... The drive does seem to be getting power.

I also upgraded to 10.14.5 using Dosdude1's patcher. Could that be the problem?

I opened it up again and checked the alignment of the drive, all seems fine, but, I notice the top and bottom of the drive are a flexible black material, and maybe it's getting pressure in it from the case when secured. I can push on the corners of the drive, when secured and it flexes a millimeter or two, like the center of the drive is resting on the bottom of the top case.

This drive worked fine in the external enclosure a few weeks ago.

Any ideas? Please write them below & thank you in advance!
