Any thoughts on taking a US Apple TV to use in the UK? I would save about $50 and we simply have to buy the UK power cord I believe? I do have a UK iTunes/iCloud account. Pretty sure power supply is the same.

I have a brand new spare here that I'd love to use over there.

Don't see it being an issue... Just remember to change the region if it doesn't change automatically.

I’ll just carry it in my backpack, no VAT, no customs
Don‘t get me wrong, I know where you’re coming from. They do control backpacks and if they catch you, you’ll end up paying a lot more than just regular VAT and customs. It’s a gamble, good luck.

If it’s carried without any packaging then they’ll be fine. Especially if it looks used.

If it’s brand new then the issue I’d be concerned with is support. Sure you can save money buying it here, but buying it in the UK gives you the protection of the nice long guarantee.

That said, if it’s used, then I’d go for it.

Especially with Apple, customs have become suspicious. It doesn't really matter if it's still in the box or unpacked. Usually they check the model number and if it's a model that's still available or was just replaced less than two years ago, they go for the serial number and require proof of purchase. I carry printed invoices for all my Apple products and camera gear when I travel internationally.

I have traveled to he UK every 8 weeks for a couple years. If it passes US customs here in LA, there are no further checks. I land in LHR and either take the train to get picked up.

I’ve brought Pot Pods and even frozen spicy sausage (Gumbo!) Never a check on arrival

You can bring in up to £350 of gifts before needing to declare (£270 is coming in by boat or private plane). Think they’re fine...

I bought the AppleTV 4K 2 years ago from the USA back to the UK. All works fine. Just need to change the standard power cable.

That's all you need to do. Same with iPhones, iPads, MacBooks.

The only difference is if you purchased in UK you get a longer guarantee - that you'll have to look up. I've had no problems with any of my Apple kit over the years.
