US AT&T iPhone in Italy

Im going abroad to Rome and want to use my iPhone 4 (GSM) while I'm there. What would the best choice for operator be? I know I can use iMessage for free, but in terms of light data usage (let's say under 500MB) and calling (around 500 minutes with the option to call home in the US), what carrier has the best plan?

I'm going to say they won't unlock it, but you can call and ask. Don't get your hopes up.

You cannot unlock a locked AT&T iphone 4.
If its on 4.3.5 or below you can use a gevey adapter, if you update to 5.0 or 5.0.1 then your i4 cannot accept any other carriers sims but AT&T.
