Has anyone figured out a way to make FaceTime calls over 3G without a shared data plan? I'd say the best way would be to set up a VPN on your home Wi-Fi network. However, perhaps some smart jailbreak developer created a proxy through which FaceTime calls can be routed.

Jailbreakers have been making FaceTime calls over 3G for years thanks to My3G and 3G Unrestrictor (and there may be others). Heck, I've used FaceTime in a car while driving around town (no, I wasn't the one driving).

However, I don't believe there is a Jailbreak for the iPhone 5 yet.

I don't think a VPN would do the trick since you are using cellular data to access the VPN. I think WiFi has to actually be enabled on the phone for FaceTime to work.

One thing you could do is tether to another phone via WiFi or use a MiFi hotspot. I've done this in the past and it worked great.
