I need to renew my US Passport, just did the online part.
Came across these "tips" on photography, some common sense stuff here for people photography....

Some good basic tips indeed, but remember that a passport photo is a very specific picture taken for a very specific function (visual identification). There is no room in a passport photo for artistic flair.

A flattering portrait and a functional passport photo are two different photographs taken for two entirely different purposes.

I'm pretty sure the standards for government photo I.D. are:
Learner Permit - Look Bewildered
Drivers License - Look Hung Over
Passport - Look Like Rapist

At least, that's what they achieved with me.
