US Pre-order while out of the country?

Does anyone have experience pre-ordering from Apple or Verizon for delivery in the US from outside the country?

I am due to travel outside the US for work the week of the X pre-order, and I would like to pre-order for delivery to the US and on US accounts. Thanks in advance.

Use a VPN and connect to a server that is US based. Actually, why am I telling you this?! I don’t want you to get one while I’m trying to get one! Good luck!
