I was curious what speeds i would get if I connected my FireWire/USB/SATA notebook enclosure with Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 to the MacBook Air versus the MacBook Pro. Using QuickBench 4.03's large sustained transfer test:

MacBook Air USB 2.0 = 31MB/s READ, 23MB/s WRITE
MacBook Pro FireWire 800 = 70MB/s READ, 56MB/s WRITE

Hmm. That's odd. I would have thought the MacBook Air would have faster transfers due to having the high-powered USB port.

:rolleyes::confused:

Really sorry but they are not very interesting results.

The firewire 800 is an absolute no brainer would have faster sustained rates of transfer. Heck firewire 400 has a faster sustained rate than USB2 also.

USB2's 480mbps transfer is based on 'peak' peformance and not sustained. Common knowledge at this stage.

Now try the same test with the same drive plugged into your MBP via USB2 and we can talk if there is a difference between it and the MBA, otherwise your result and this thread is unfortunately pretty pointless.

Ohhh! Firewire 800. Duh! Sorry. I thought you were comparing USB 2.0 on the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. Of course Firewire 800 is faster than USB 2.0.

hhmm i doubt that the MBA would have increased USB2.0 speeds compared to a l computer because of the computer, because the actual HD would have to be higher powered or something aswell..
