Hello,

I have a mac mini using plex and in need of more disk space. I plan to put all my movies on an external hard drive. Will a usb 2.0 connection be good enought to stream from? I know the other connections are better ie firewire, ethernet but Ive read that dvd data stream is only 5-6 Mbs anyways?

Thanks

Although the bitrate is only 5-6 Mb/s for most DVDs, you need to consider buffering will max out the bandwidth. Also, although you may think you are only doing one thing on the drive, there could be more going on that could slow down the connection.

I would recommend one of these with a 3.5" drive of your choosing. It also comes in a Firewire 800 model.

thanks for the info.

How about an ethernet only drive? Anyone have any experiences with them?
