I won a D-Link USB 2.0 hub on eBay and it should be arriving tomorrow. I was wondering... is it okay to use a USB 2.0 external hard drive on the USB 2.0 hub? Would speed stay the same as if it was hooked up directly to my PowerBook? Thanks!

The speed will be shared between all devices on the hub. But if the hard drive is the only high-speed device, performance shouldn't be affected in any noticeable way.

Thanks for the quick reply. The devices hooked up to the hub should be the hard drive I mentioned, my 5G iPod 60 GB and an Apple Pro Mouse.

I usually use external drive via USB hub (if it is USB drive). I would like to get the wear and tear at the hub instead of USB ports on Macs, as I need to plug and unplug with those external drives.
