I need a video adapter for a 2011 Macbook Pro with the dGPU disabled and thus no video on the thunderbolt port. This machine has USB 2.0.

No gaming or video editing or any professional use. Just watchin' TV.

Any opinions on the available USB 2.0 compatible DVI or HDMI adapters?

I tried out a Zettaguard usb 2.0 uga. It looks like this was aimed at Windows users to connect additional monitors to a laptop (when they didn't have a thunderbolt port to do so). Was a $300 item a couple years ago. Down to around $40 now. Or $25 with a lucky ebay snipe. :D

It just works. System preferences/Displays integrates it and you can mirror or extend. It's DVI and includes adapters for HDMI and even the ancient VGA.

I also see the same product from Diamond. Sniped that for $19. I'll report back on that when it arrives.

So if you're rockin' a 2011 MBP and disabling the flawed AMD dGPU and you need external video, this Windows-land workaround is for you!
