I have a USB 2 dock but am looking for a USB 3.0 one to speed up the process of creating my backups. So can people recommend one or what they have that has worked well.
 
The fastest ones are those that support UASP. Pluggable makes a couple in different styles that do support UASP. See here and here.

You want something that specifically is stated to support "UASP" (USB Attached SCSI Protocol). This is a major advance above "the old way" of running USB. It relieves the computer's CPU from some of the "work" involved in file transfers over the USB bus.
