It will not work with USB 2.0 ports, as it only enables USB 3.0 on the HDD not the computer you connect it to.
If you want a fast external, you may need to invest in FW800 HDDs.

EDIT: I just saw the ExpressCard with it, but as there are no USB 3.0 drivers for Mac OS X, thus it will not work.

I found this on Newegg and as per review it says it improves USB 2.0 speed to USB 3.0 level. Is it possible to finally have USB 3.0 on 2010 MBP ?

I'm looking for highspeed data transfer between MBP and external HDD, preferably in 2.5" form factor.

Is that an expresscard34 or not? I can't tell from the picture and it isn't mentionned. If it is, and you have an expresscard slot on your computer, then yes, I don't see why this wouldn't work.

Because even expresscards need device drivers. And OS X doesn't have the required device drivers currently.

I went the esata via express card route, and it's not worth the expense in my opinion. FW800 is plenty fast for my uses.

Okay I need to clarify little bit more I've 2010 MBP 13 and I dont see any place fro expresscard on it - am I missing something ?

no only the 17" has express card.

even if it did have express card, it wouldn't work at this time.

laCie is releasing an express card that will add usb 3 to mac later this year.
