If you had to make an educated guess, when would you guess that USB 3.0 will arrive on MacBooks?
2010. Please search.
I did search. The various posts I read contained information that contradicted each other. That is my reason for starting this thread.
Second to last paragraph; article used as a source from the Wikipedia article on USB 3.0
Thanks for the link to the article. It does seem credible. However, there are other articles which report contradictory information.
I'm curious if anyone has any recent information, and by "recent," I mean information that's only a couple of weeks old.
I have a MBP late 2006, will it be possible to replace the current USB ports with USB 3 when they come out? I've looked at some teardown pix from ifixit, but I can't determine how the ports are attached; I assume if the USB ports can be replaced they could be replaced w/usb3 if the pipeline is there to support it... any thoughts?

well poo. I'm good now w/eSata thru express card, just thinking about the future and reallyabout lack of expresscard slot in new 15" MBPs, so I guess I'll hold out til usb3 adoption in new models.
Thanks for the sug, here's the tally
For kicks I transferred a 4.36GB file and the times were
eSATA 2:58.4 vs. FW800 2:53.6 ... FW800 was 2.7% faster in this case...hmm.
In day to day use, I probably wouldn't notice 7 seconds here or there. I mainly use it for scratch disk connection and don't know how to perform a test along those lines.
...
Thx for the info link, ya learned me.
absolutely not. You'll need to buy a new computer, or get an expresscard USB 3.0 hub.
