i recently purchased a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging my 12 inch MacBook. Based on google search I am not 100% sure If it is safe to use or if it can fry the battery/port. I posted a link below to the cable and seems like it may be safe but wanted you experts to weigh in. Is it a bad idea to use a cord like this in general to charge MacBook?

USB 3.0 Type C Cable, Syncwire [2 Pack, 6ft] Nylon Braided USB A to USB-C Charger,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F42TGQF/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_CqOVCbWAYE889

It will charge more slowly as the USB A charger likely doesn't offer full power (30W) and the cable doesn't allow 20V @ 1.5A (USB C needed for both sides). If you let the Mac sleep it will charge up eventually but it might not if you keep using it.

Nothing should fry as the power needs are negotiated and selected. Occasionally the really cheap USB C chargers can fry something but with the classic USB A it should be fine.
