Using a G4 PowerPC Dual Processor running 10.4.11 & 9.2.2. Bought a cheap USB bluetooth dongle that claims to work on Mac/PC. Have tried every USB port. Only thing I've noticed that happens is when I start up, the apple logo gray screen with the spinning circle seems to linger a little longer than normal when I have the dongle plugged in. I've tried starting up with it in, and with it out. I have tried resetting the rams (control-option-p-r) properly (through 2 start up tones). I plugged the dongle into a PC and it worked fine, no extra drivers needed. I was able to send pics/vids from my LG phone to the PC, easy. I have plugged the dongle into another single processor G4 and a MacBook Pro, they don't recognize it either (I realize the Pro already has bluetooth built in). My finder tells me that I have "bluetooth file exchange" in my utilities folder but if I try to run it I get the "No Bluetooth Hardware Found" window. In the "about this mac" section under hardware/bluetooth it says "no information found". Under hardware/usb there's nothing listed, however I swear the other day when I looked (dongle plugged into extra usb port on keyboard) there was a paragraph of info that said something like "usb bluetooth host controller" or something like that. Alas, the bluetooth was not functioning at that time either.
I just pulled the dongle, reinserted it, closed and reopened the System Profiler and now in the hardware/usb section it's listing USB Bus/Hub in Apple Pro Keyboard - Bluetooth USB Host Controller (and the mouse and keyboard). If I click on that it says:
Bluetooth USB Host Controller:
Version: 19.15
Bus Power (mA): 100
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Product ID: 0x0001
Vendor ID: 0x0a12
Retried bluetooth file exchange & bluetooth setup assistant (in System/Library/CoreServices folder), still says "no bluetooth hardware found".
I'm at a loss. Stopped by a Mac/Apple dealer and they were no help.
Here's the dongle:
