Looking to buy a hub for my 2016 13MBP to connect monitor via HDMI and mouse/keyboard. all the hubs (HooToo, etc) come with short (less than 12 inches) USB-C connections. I'm wondering if that's necessary for the ports to function properly, or if I can add an extension cable. Ideally I'd like to attach the hub to the bottom of my desk with only a single wire coming up to connect my MBP.

I read one person in AMZN say he purchased an extension cable and was able to get all the ports and power to work, but not the HDMI (which would run to my monitor). I'd rather not spend $200+ on some of the more intricate docking stations, but my OCD would have a hard time looking at all the connections on my desk. I'm going for the cleanest look possible.

Any with any tips or suggestions? If I have to shell out an extra $200 for just the single cable coming up I will (yeah, my OCD is THAT bad). I'll be spending hours at my desk every day so for me it'd be worth it, though I don't want to spend any more than needed.

Thanks!
