Alright, I need to buy a flash drive to update my car's infotainment system.

I haven't bought one in YEARS. I have 2, a 4 GB and 128 MB and both are too small for my needs.

What do I need to look for to use with my 2020 MBP? Apple says it has USB 4 and USB 3.1 Gen 2.

I usually get SanDisk. I'm just good with getting any of the USB-C ones?

What kind of USB port does the CAR have?
Type a, or type c ?
Does the car manual mention what SPEED the port runs at?

If it's type a, get a flashdrive with an "a" plug on it. Will make things easier.
I think "lowest common denominator" applies here.

If your Mac has only USBc ports, get one of these (or 2 or 3, they're handy to have):

It has both USB A and USB C ports. I'll see what's at the local Best Buy later today. Other than that, I'd have to order it. I'm tempted to just get one with USB C since it's the "future" but most have both. I really don't think I'll use it for anything else.

And that update won't really add anything for me but I guess it's like iOS updates; I feel like I need to do them as soon as possible.

You sure both ports in the car are for communication w/ the info system? In my car the C ports are all power only. The A port is the connection port.

Yes. I used to have a USB C to Lightning cable but I switched back to USB A. The car's online forum says you can use both.
