USB C hub heats up like crazy

Had bought this third party USB C hub (something like in the picture attached) for my macbook pro 2018. It seems to heat up pretty quickly when connected to an external monitor and I guess my macbook heats up as well. Is this normal? I have not used apple USB hub till now to connect an ext monitor so don't have idea regarding this.

Yes, a lot of hubs seem to do this.
The more "that's running through them", the warmer they get.

Thanks for the info, but what about Apple USB C hubs, I recently tried one of my friend's and it did not seem to heat up at all.

Would your friend let you borrow the hub he has, so you could try it for a day or two?
Use it with YOUR peripherals.
See if it runs cool with them.
If you like the performance, buy one yourself.

I've used a few hubs with my MacBook and I think it's normal for it to get warm to touch. Obviously, you don't want it to be burning hot, that might hint at a more serious issue.

Mine definitely get warm. It’s interesting to see the battery life drop when not on ac power too. I’ve got one I use for several usb 3 drives, Ethernet, and hdmi. Wow that heats up like crazy.
