Hi guys,

I recently got rid of my old MBP and switched to my early '16 Macbook as the sole computer at home, although to my surprise I was unable to run some of the more power hungry devices such as Blu-ray drive or external hard drive with the current USB-C hub I had. The Macbook could not recognize these devices when they were plugged into the hub and I had to resort to using an AmazonBasics C-to-A adapter and plug those directly into the Macbook's USB-C port for them to be powered.

One suspicion I had was that for some reason the hub was not providing enough power despite it having a passthrough port for me to charge and power the laptop. This is a Siig 3-port hub I got for for ~$35. I am assuming that a powered hub (preferably with Power Delivery so I can charge the laptop as well?) with a sufficiently large power supply may solve this? If so, are there recommendations?

I am looking for something hopefully within $50; I know that some of you have recommended a CalDigit 3, but I need only USB ports in the foreseeable future with this laptop.

Thanks!

Update: I don't know if anyone else may be interested in a similar item, but I ended up getting an Archiss AS-DCS01 USB-C hub. This thing has a 100W PSU and is VESA-compatible. There is also no problem connecting multiple external hard and optical drives simultaneously. The cost is however $150, about 3x my original budget.
