In a lot of the reviews about the new Macbooks, I noticed that many people were raving about the return of MagSafe. I find this interesting and annoying because people are always complaining about why Apple won't use USB-C. They just went to USB-C with the MBA and now people are praising them for going away from it in the new MBP.

Part of the bitching about wanting USB-C was the desire to have fewer cables and especially Apple-only cables. Now everyone is fine with ditching USB-C for Apple only Mag-safe.

In thinking about keeping my MBA this is actually a small reason. I don't want to go back to expensive Apple chargers and cables that can't be used with any other device. Am I missing something here?

You can still use USB-C to charge the new MBPs (up to 100W, I believe). I do it all the time. Basically you now have a choice. And you can use the charger that comes with the MBP either with a magsafe cable or with a USB-C cable. (The charger is not hard-wired to the magsafe cable: the charger has a USB-C outlet). Or you can use your own USB-C charger, of any power. Lots of choices.
Some people will still complain that they would rather have four USB-C ports, but if that was the case others would complain the opposite, or complain that it should be 6 ports, or whatever.
