USB-C Multiport Cable Issue

Hey I tried to connect a Logitech mouse to New MacBook Pro 2016.
The cable works individually, but in that way which I attached photo does not work.
Is it usual? or should I exchange the cable.

The USB-C port on the Apple USB-C Multiport Adapters is for power only - not data.
