Hey everyone,

I bought the new 2020 air (i5, 16gb) when it came out and it's been working great since. About a week ago, however, I noticed that the top USB-C port was no longer working. I tried multiple devices, reset the PRAM, SMC, ran the diagnostics, etc and nothing was working. Then a day later the 10.5.5 supplemental update was released and suddenly it was working again.

Everything was fine until this morning when it stopped working again and because of this, it seems to be a software rather than a hardware issue.

Any recommendations on what to do? Should I take it back? If it's a software issue I'm just worried they'll give me a new one and the same thing happens until the next update/macOS is released.

Thanks in advance!

/Emil

It’s not a widespread issue, so i suspect it’s actually a hardware issue, even though the software install temporarily solved it. There are various failure modes where hardware issues can cause this kind of behavior.
