I keep a small Seagate One Touch external SSD drive connected to my MacBook Air for Time Machine backups. I have noticed a few USB-C SSDs (ie they look like flash drives) online and wonder if anyone has experience with them? One maker is Transcend but the Amazon reviews suggestion the drives run hot and I would leave it plugged in all the time. Thanks.

I only use platter disks for Time Machine; SSD and similar external disks are faster but why in a rush for backing up? 😉😁

Because it makes restores quicker, meaning you can get back to a fully functioning system in a fraction of the time, which can be important, especially if using your system for paid work.

I use Sharge Disk SSDs as both external drives, as well as TM backups. Very small and convenient - no cables to mess about with, and if the drive should fail you can remove the SSD easily, place it in a different enclosure, and carry on. Only downside is the noise from the active cooling fan, but as I unplug the drive after performing a backup its not really an issue for me.

Thanks. Yes I am looking for something very small - space is an issue - but also ideally something I can keep plugged in all the time so I don’t have to focus on the automated backups.
