Hey guys,

I've had it happen over and over again with multiple different USB flash drives but it seems like my mac crashes alot of times with it.

Here's what happens:

-Connect a USB drive to the mac
-It pops up
- i open it
- go to copy something from it
- Copying window gets stucks for minutes. (even if its a 50kb file)
-I give up like 10-15 minutes later.
-force quit > relaunch finder > finder fails to relaunch
- I end up restarting the Mac.

I tried different flash drives, i tried different external hard disks, i had my HDD replaced with an SSD, i reinstalled OSX twice, and the issue still presists. Any idea what could be causing it. It seems to only happen with Flash drives and NOT external hard drive. My lacie (120gb) and Seagate (750) work well with it.

You might try partitioning the thumb drive in disk utilities and then formatting it. Sometimes the partition table gets corrupted and there can be issues with read/write. I have had the same issue on linux boxes. For some reason, Windows seems more forgiving. The same thumb drive/sd card would work fine on a Windows box.

Good Luck
