USB drawing too much power

I have a 15" MacBook Pro, which I bought 6 months ago. I'm trying to connect an HP laser printer (3390) and I get the "USB drawing too much power" on both USB ports. I saw several threads with this same message but none that happened when trying to connect a laser printer. Can someone help?. This is my first MAC after 20+ yrs in the PC world.
