I know this has probably been asked before, but I haven't been able to find a good answer for it:

If I buy an Airport Extreme, and connect a USB hard drive, can I connect to the drive from my iPad when I'm not on the wifi network (via a web interface, an app or something like it)?

If not: Is there a good alternative to the Airport Extreme that would let me do this with an HFS+ formatted disk? (I know of several which only work with NFTS or FAT).

Thanks!

First line in the 'Hard Drive Sharing' page on Apple.com:

AirPort Extreme can turn your external USB hard drive into a drive you can share with all the users on your network and access securely over the Internet."
