So I have this USB drive, with a Samsung SSD in it. I sent the SSD into Samsung under warranty because it was making my computer "hang".. in other words, apps waiting on disk access would freeze until I simply unplugged it. I couldn't even eject it safely. Sucked.

Anyway, Samsung found no issues with the SSD but updated its firmware, and the problem persists.

I'm not sure if it's the enclosure's hardware or if it's an OS issue. Does anyone know how to maybe diagnose this further?

Have you tried this USB on other Mac as well? And what file system it is formatted with? The USB may be possibly corrupt or having bad sectors on it. Though it is rare but few of them have manufacturing defects.
