Hey ALl --
Long time lurker, first time B*tcher about an Apple system (especially considering I have converted about 7 friends to make the switch!), but I have an issue that is simply driving me over the edge.
I have the Stardom Safe Capsule connected via USB to an AirPort Extreme, alongside a 27" i7 iMac w/ 16GB of RAM plus a second 27" ACD. Within the Safe Capsule, I have 2x 2TB HDDs that I use for backup purposes and general storage. I have an issue that I cannot, for the life of me, understand.
Prior to connecting the HDDs to the AirPort, I connected them to the iMac and named them and reformatted them (they were brand new drives). I then proceeded to use them, and was happy as a clam. I then was required to try and reconnect them to the iMac as I wished to rename one of them, except much to my surprise, they would not be seen (keep in mind I am running 10.7 with all the latest and greatest and shiny). Fearing that either the drives or the Capsule were bad, I tried plugging them back into the AirPort -- and lo it detected them just fine, and I have been using it for about 3 weeks without fail.
Today, I did a fresh restart and attempted this exercise with identical results, and I am getting more than a little miffed. They do not appear in the sidebar in finder, nor Disk Utility, nor even in the System Report in "more about this Mac", but by jeebus on a pogo stick, if I plug them into the AirPort everything is good to go.
Couple this with the fact that since I cannot see either of them, I cannot simply move everything from Drive A to Drive B and reformat Drive A -- especially since you can't through the AirPort.
Does anyone have ANY ideas on what I might be able to do to rectify this? Doing a backup of both drives onto my machine via AirPort and then reformatting them on some other (i.e. not mine) computer is not an option at this point.
ALSO: Note that I have tried both the USB port(s) (i.e. all fo them) on both the iMac and ACD, and all of them are currently used with something or another, so I know they work.
Regards,
-Soupy
